Sure, if you can’t have anything but your healthy stuff in the house without being forced to break your diet, then give the ultimatum of “Your are in my house, these are the rules of the house”. Remember, the family will continue to love you even if they have to eat some healthy food for a week. Keep yourself happy and healthy as priority number one.
- Compromise – Most families won’t get angry if there is more than the usual amount of healthy food at dinner to keep you happy as long as they get something that they are used to. They can have their burgers or steaks because we healthier folks can fill up on various other smaller dishes without having to kill ourselves with the main course. Compromise is the key to all things, and staying healthy during the holidays is no exception.
Plan Your Day
If you know that you are going to have to spend the evenings entertaining family or guests, then make sure to wake up an hour early so you can get a days to exercise routine in. Who knows, you may even find that after a few days you actually prefer exercising in the morning before work. The most successful people in the world tend to do this for a reason. It gives you more energy and allows you to deal with stress and issues with a more level head for the rest of the day.
Keep foods separated
If you have a family that loves to snack then try to find another area of the house to put out all the snacks. If you are cooking or doing work in the kitchen you might find yourself liable to grab a handful of whatever you got for the guests that you wouldn’t normally eat. But if they are out of site, they are out of mind, and you can go about your day without a major distracting looking you in the face.
Channel Your Frustrations
If you’re anything like me, you have a couple of nights during the holidays where all the stresses catch up with you and you just want to explode.
