Throughout my teenage years, I used prescription medications to treat my mild acne. They made my skin red, dry and flaky. This lasted until I was in university. In my third year of undergrad, I began to do research on alternative treatments for acne. This is when I purchased Proactiv. While it works for some, it did not work for me.
Granted, acne is complicated and varies from person to person. I consider myself to have sensitive skin. Maybe this is why Proactiv made it red and shiny. It looked unhealthy. Also, it cleared only a small percentage of my acne. My face was red to the point where the pimples blended in. Not the desired result.
After a few months of doing more research, I discovered that Proactiv is not the best option for your skin in the long run. Its active ingredient is benzoyl peroxide which depletes your skin of all its natural oil when applied frequently. A few people have experienced major breakouts after stopping it. Thankfully, my skin did not get worse. It was the same as before I started using Proactiv.
An Organic Solution for Acne
Next, I decided to try an organic approach. I read a lot of inspiring books on how to achieve balance and beauty naturally. Most notably, Kimberly Snyder’s The Beauty Detox Solution. She has worked with Drew Barrymore, Fergie, Channing Tatum, Jimmy Fallon, and many other celebrities. I cut back on sugar and gluten products. I avoided soy and dairy products as well. I also included several superfoods in my diet. Then I began to look for an organic product to compliment my organic diet. The best one I could find was Clear Skin Max.
Most products on the market (such as Proactiv) aim to get rid of acne by completely drying out oily skin. This does not solve the problem long term. Clear Skin Max offers an alternative. It treats skin from the inside out. It’s completely natural, and there are no side effects.
It consists of 4 products: Organic Kelp, Face Wash, Balancing Cream, and Cleansing & Detox Tea.
The Organic Kelp is a comprehensive source of the essential vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidants, protein, polysaccharides, and trace elements needed to achieve skin that looks and feels healthy.
The Face Wash contains 5 herbal extracts to soothe and heal the skin. My favorite of which is the antibacterial tea tree oil. One study performed at the Prince Alfred Hospital in Australia (published in The Medical Journal of Australia) revealed tea tree oil’s ability to perform just as well as a common over-the-counter acne treatment, without the side effects.
The Balancing Cream contains calendula, bilberry fruit extract, tea tree oil and goldenseal herb. Based on my research, calendula seems to have the most potential. It has a long history of use as a wound-healing and skin-soothing botanical. It helps with skin renewal as it speeds up the generation of new tissue growth. You can read more about calendula here.
The Cleansing & Detox Tea is a blend of chrysanthemum (a flower used in traditional Chinese medicine), licorice root and peppermint. All three ingredients are effective at purifying and cleansing the skin to varying degrees. Chrysanthemum is the most promising of the three. Its leaves contain vitamins A, C, D, and B complex as well as iron, magnesium, zinc, potassium, manganese, copper, choline, calcium, boron, and silicon. The active ingredients increase bile flow which cleanses the liver and gallbladder. A double incentive if you occasionally indulge in alcohol like I do.
Many people who decide to take an organic approach to treating ailments spend a lot of time doing research (as I did) to find the best combination of natural products. If I had found this solution earlier, it would have saved me a lot of time and money. It contains nature’s most powerful ingredients for treating acne long term.
None of this chemical based nonsense that depletes your skin of all it’s natural oil causing you to breakout after you stop using it. I am so delighted that every year there are more and more people working to achieve balance and beauty naturally.
