Health is very vital to each and every person which means it should be well taken of at all times. There are various health problems that cause discomforts in a person or to the other people such as snoring. Snoring is a condition that affects most men those who have overweight and it may become worse with age. It is therefore very important to establish the main causes of the practice so as to come up with prevention measures. There are therefore a number of causes of snoring that researchers have come up with in collaboration with health professionals.
Causes of Snoring
Snoring takes place when the air flow through the nose and mouth is obstructed physically. The main causes of snoring include:-
A long uvula or the soft plate may cause snoring. This is due to the narrowing of the air passage when these structures come together and hence resulting to snoring. The opening of the nose towards the throat is narrowed and while breathing, the air stream is obstructed hence causing one to snore.
Snoring can also be caused by bulky tissue in the throat. This mostly occurs to the people who have overweight. The air flowing from the nose and mouth is obstructed at the throat and snoring results. The internal diameter of the throat usually is squeezed in when sleeping thus causing a person to snore since it collapses while asleep.
Obstruction of the nasal airways- There are people who experience some allergies during particular seasons especially the cold one. They therefore experience obstruction of the air flowing through the nose. This makes them to snore during the season and when it is over they stop snoring.
-Sleep apnea- This is a serious condition that involves the blockage of the throat. The throat is either partially or completely blocked thus preventing smooth airflow. This causes snoring which may either loud or low depending on the extent of blockage.
Consumption of alcohol may as well cause snoring. This takes place when one consumes a lot of alcohol before bedtime. Alcohol causes the relaxation of the throat muscles and reduces the ability of natural mechanisms to defend the throat against the obstruction of the air. The obstruction of the through hence makes one to snore. Alcohol usually decrease the relaxing tone muscles of the throat which results to snoring.
Poor or bad sleeping habits may cause one to snore. For example, one may snore if she/he sleeps in a room that is dusty or dirty. The same case occurs when one uses pillows or bedding materials that are dirty and dusty. The dust sediments are likely to block the air passage and therefore leading to snoring. Poor sleeping habits such as sleeping to little due to over working may as well lead to snoring. In this case, it means that one sleeps deeply making the muscles floppier and this causes snoring.
Dehydration as well is another cause of snoring. The soft palate and the nose become sticky and hence not flexible while the air is passing which causes snoring.
