Many women who get a yeast infection for the first time wonder if it will go away on its own. The answer to that is “yes.” If you leave a yeast infection untreated, it will more than likely go away on its own, usually when menstruation starts. When menstruation starts, the blood rises the vaginal pH, which decreases the amount of yeast cells – yeast cells are not able to grow in pH during menstruation. Of course, this does not say that the yeast infection will not come back. If the infection returns, it would be a good idea to treat it. By treating it, you should be able to feel some relief.
Home Remedies
There are many home remedies you can turn to in order to get rid of this problem . Here are some good home remedies we recommend:
Apple Cider Vinegar
Some say that soaking in a nice apple cider vinegar bath will offer some relief. The vinegar will help restore your bodies normal acidity. If you would like to try this home remedy, add two cups of vinegar to a warm bath and soak in it for 15 minutes. When you get out of the tub, it is important that you dry yourself before getting dressed. After three soaks, you should start to see some improvement and feel relief.
Apply Plain Yogurt
If you apply plain yogurt to the infected area, you may be able to reduce irritation and restore balance. 30387tnTake plain yogurt (make sure it has active cultures) and rub it 2 times a day on the outside of the vagina. Some recommend inserting it into the vagina – you can do this by dipping yogurt on a tampon and then inserting it.
Before you choose over-the-counter medications, we highly recommend you trying these home remedies – they are great for every woman, even those that are pregnant.
A Prescription
If you are dealing with chronic yeast infections, you may need to go to the doctor and get prescription strength boric acid. These are gelatin capsules that are inserted into the vagina at night for up to two weeks – they serve as both an anti-inflammatory and an antiseptic agent.
Prevent Future Yeast Infections
There are some things you can do in order to prevent future yeast infection. Here’s some of those things:
Let the area breathe – Avoid nylon underwear. Instead, wear cotton. You should also avoid pantyhose and tights that do not have a cotton lining.
Keep the area clean and dry – After showering, make sure you thoroughly dry the area. Never sit in wet swimsuits and when you’re done exercising, remove the clothes and change into cotton underwear and pants.
Your sugar intake – Limit the amount of sugar you consume.
Avoid Douches – We understand, you may be used to using feminine sprays, douches and maybe even taking a nice bubble bath, but all of those normally contain chemicals that can cause a yeast infection.
While a yeast infection can go away on its own, it is best that you use some good home remedies to treat it and take precautions so that it does not return.
